Meeting format (During program sessions, you will be able to see and hear the teacher, as well as other program participants, and they will be able to see and hear you).

The Buddha taught that because of habits of greed, hatred and delusion, we are all spinning, within and without. We have been spinning so long, yet still we keep getting hooked into these cycles of suffering. Instead of learning from our experience and becoming wise and dispassionate regarding the entanglements of greed, hatred and delusion, we go on spinning. What prevents us from seeing how we repeatedly get caught?

The Buddha’s teachings encourage us to cultivate a stability of present moment awareness so that we can realize how natural, conditional, impersonal, and not-worthy-of-attachment all this inner and outer activity actually is. Understanding the river of experience in this way leads to freedom, allowing us the space to engage our tender world with more compassion and skill.

The inner tangle and the outer tangle,
these people are entangled in a tangle.
So I ask of you, Gotama,
Who can disentangle this tangle?

One established in virtue, deeply knowing, developing mind and wisdom,
a cultivator ardent and discerning:
she can disentangle this tangle.

Those for whom lust and hatred,
along with ignorance have been dispelled, the arahants with impulses ended:
for them the tangle is disentangled.

Where both name and form
stop without the least remainder,
also impingement and recognition of form: it is here this tangle is cut.

The Buddha, SN 1:23

All are welcome, both seasoned and beginning meditators alike.

Teacher Support
Most IMS teachers—like insight teachers around the world—offer their teachings freely, and rely on the generosity of students for their livelihood. Teachers do not generally receive compensation from IMS program fees, though IMS may offer a modest advance to ensure financial support and the continuation of the teachings.
