Special Retreats

Staff Retreat

Operational support

We typically rely on many volunteers for our annual week-long Staff Retreat that takes place each January. Coverage is needed for both Retreat Center and Forest Refuge operations. Special skills are not required, although these assignments are generally available to those with previous IMS retreat experience of two weeks. Please consider supporting the staff as they find renewal through formal practice together.

Please email your completed application to volunteer(at)dharma.org.

Teen Retreat

There are two distinct volunteer roles for those helping with the Teen Retreat: Mentors and Volunteers. Please scroll down for more information.

Mentors

Each year, IMS endeavors to cultivate the mindfulness, compassion and wisdom of the next generation through its Teen Retreat for ages 15 to 19. If you have worked with teenagers, are an experienced meditator, and have sat at least one retreat at IMS, you are welcome to apply.

Please email your completed application to volunteer(at)dharma.org.

Volunteers

Be part of a team of adults who provide extra support to our Kitchen and Housekeeping departments during this retreat. These volunteer assignments are generally available only to those with previous IMS retreat experience of at least one week. You don’t have to be an experienced cook or housekeeper to qualify.

Individuals considering these positions should know that this is not your typical silent IMS retreat! While the teens do have periods of silent formal practice, there are many social activity periods, and a lively atmosphere permeates the Retreat Center. It’s a unique experience.

Please note: Family members of teenagers attending the Teen Retreat will not be accepted as volunteers for this retreat.
