Stock, Crypto, and IRA Gifts

A gift of stock, cryptocurrency, or a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) allows IMS to offer transformational retreats, care for our refuge and keep our fees affordable. Many of our supporters take advantage of these tax-smart ways to give.

Stock Gifts

The benefits of offering a gift of appreciated assets, such as stock, are two-fold. You can receive a tax deduction for the asset’s full market value at the time of donating. You can also avoid paying any capital gains tax you might otherwise incur from the sale, ensuring that more of your gift reaches IMS. Please consult first, however, with your tax advisor to understand your specific situation.

To offer a gift of stock

  • Please complete our stock donation form.
  • Forward it to your broker.
  • Then email development@dharma.org or call 978-355-4378 ext. 320 to let us know your transfer of stock has been initiated.

Cryptocurrency Gifts

Donating cryptocurrency is safe, easy, and efficient: your donation is tax-deductible and does not trigger capital-gains tax, helping you make a bigger impact to support meditation practice at IMS.

IMS accepts Bitcoin, USD, and Ethereum. If you’d like to donate with a different coin and the donation is valued at $5,000 or more, please contact crypto@every.org.

IRA Gifts

Beginning at age 73, retirement account holders are required to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from tax-deferred retirement accounts like IRAs.

If you find you don’t need all the funds, consider making an IRA qualified charitable distribution (QCD), also known as an IRA charitable rollover. You can distribute up to $105,000 directly from a Traditional IRA to qualified charities each year, tax-free. QCDs count toward your RMD and won’t be included in your taxable income–potentially reducing your taxes and ensuring that more of your gift reaches IMS.

You can also name IMS as the beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement plan.

Contact your plan administrator for more information on how to give.
