Down to Earth Dharma: Buddhism from a Feminine Paradigm

This retreat is held online.

IMS Online
This retreat is held online.
October 02 - October 07, 2020 (Friday to Wednesday)

People of all gender identities are warmly invited to participate in this retreat approaching the teachings of the Buddha through our experience of what is known as the feminine archetype: by way of immanence, embodiment, the felt, the intuitive, and the sacred. Rather than striving in our spiritual practice to transcend this world, we will honor and explore our deep embeddedness in life on this earth.

Through sense embodiment and deep interest in life as it unfolds, the contractions that bind us will have space to dissolve. This will grant our hearts and minds the freedom to come into intimate connection with ourselves, other people, animals, plants, and all life. From this abiding presence, we can then respond to life’s challenges with greater understanding and compassion.

The retreat will include vipassana (insight) and metta (loving-kindness) meditations and instructions, dharma talks about the Buddha’s teachings, and group meetings with the teachers to discuss your practice. A daily optional session of guided mindful movement will be offered by Sabra Saperstein. During the retreat, participants will be encouraged to relate with the natural world and to nourish themselves through connecting with beauty.

A note on dana (generosity)
Most IMS teachers—like insight teachers around the world—rely on the generosity of students for their livelihood, and receive no compensation from course fees. All IMS online teachers receive a modest dana advance from IMS to guarantee a minimum level of financial support. (Click here to learn more about the dana practice.) There will be an opportunity to offer a contribution to your teachers at the end of this course.

Cost is sliding-scale: $200, $325, or $500, your choice. Registration fees support the Insight Meditation Society’s work online and at our physical retreat centers in Barre, MA.

Financial Assistance is available. We invite you to reach out—nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. To inquire, please email imsonline@dharma.org.
