Sayadaw U Jagara
Canadian-born Sayadaw U Jagara embarked on his spiritual path in the mid-1970s under Robert Hover, a teacher in the lineage of Sayagyi U Ba Khin. His dhamma commitment deepened in 1979 when he was ordained by the Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw in Burma. For the next fifteen years, Sri Lanka became his home for intensive meditation and textual study. Alongside his monastic path, U Jagara trained with S.N. Goenka in the 1980s, leading Vipassana retreats within his network.
In 1995, he came back to Burma where he settled for some 20 years and began studying under the prominent Burmese master Venerable Pha-Auk Sayadaw, known for his method of teaching deep states of absorption (jhāna) and detailed analytical Vipassana. In the early 2000s, U Jagara assisted Pha-Auk Sayadaw’s retreats internationally for almost a decade, sporadically.Today, he teaches independently throughout North America. In collaboration with fellow teachers, he shares a lifetime of experience and wisdom. His teachings focus on life as a continuous meditation, guiding students on their journey toward liberation.
