Jayson Chung

Jayson Chung has a combined total of 25 years of movement training in Aikido and Taijiquan. For mindful movement periods at retreats, he usually focuses on Silk Reeling exercises from the Chen style of Taijiquan. These are individual, in-place, qigong exercises that develop the qualities of connecting to the ground and center-out, whole body coordination exhibited by the more elaborate Taiji forms. He feels they support meditation practice by orienting us to staying grounded and encouraging attention to never abandon the body.

Jayson is a long time practitioner of Buddhist meditation, to which he was introduced in college. His first meditation retreat in the 1990’s placed him on the Theravada path, although he remains eclectic in his spiritual interests, and he benefited immeasurably from his extended study with Matthew Flickstein. Jayson practices and helps lead meditation sessions with the Madison Insight Meditation Group, on whose board he serves.
