Western nuns and monks from the Theravada monastic tradition teach each year at the Retreat Center.
During this year’s course, open to both new and experienced meditators, we will explore the breakthrough moments of the awakened nuns of the Buddha’s time. These women came from all walks of life, and their realizations took many forms. Investigating these teachings connects us to the challenges and opportunities of our own lives, and the ways these insights are relevant to us today.
The framework of the Eight Precepts (which include abstaining from eating after noon), Noble Silence, chanting and simple ceremonies will provide a monastic container to hold and inspire us during our practice throughout this silent insight meditation course. An optional daily period of yoga will be offered by Marci Moberg.
Our wish is to make this retreat accessible to anyone who would like to participate. We offer a You Choose fee option for this course, charging a minimum of just $20 per night (i.e. $180 minimum total). Those who can contribute more, however, help IMS to continue providing financial aid to as many people as possible.
Teacher Support: Most IMS teachers—like insight teachers around the world—offer their teachings freely, and rely on the generosity of students for their livelihood. Teachers do not generally receive compensation from IMS program fees. Click here to learn more about teacher support. There will be an opportunity to offer a contribution to your teachers at the end of this program, or you may donate now.
