Based on the format of IMS's traditional insight meditation retreats, this course will bring together early Buddhist mindfulness teachings and their modern-day clinical applications through programs such as MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction).

During the retreat, Jon Kabat-Zinn will give evening talks, guide meditations, and hold the space for inquiry and dialogue within the larger embrace of Noble Silence. In the mornings and afternoons, Bhikkhu Anālayo will offer guided meditations based on the 10 perceptions described in the Girimananda-sutta, which culminate in mindfulness of breathing in 16 steps. He will also participate in the dialogue and inquiry sessions. Sally Armstrong and Bonnie Duran will offer practice support through individual and group meetings.

Retreatants are invited to prepare themselves for Bhikkhu Anālayo's instructions by reading his book, Mindfully Facing Disease and Death: Compassionate Advice from Early Buddhist Texts.

Participants are required to have sat at least three silent retreats of a week or more with a recognized insight meditation teacher. Please document this when registering.
