Concentration is often taught as a separate practice from insight meditation. This retreat, however, will integrate concentration, mindfulness and insight into a single meditative path, using mindfulness of breathing as the foundational practice.
Practicing in this way, the mind becomes more collected and centered, leading to deep states of concentration, peace, clarity and calm abiding. At the same time, awareness opens naturally into mindfulness of the body and states of the heart and the mind, revealing the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.
This retreat is suitable for both beginning and seasoned meditators.
12 CE credits are available for Psychologists and Licensed Mental Health Counselors. An additional fee of $50 will be payable at the end of your retreat when you receive your certificate.
IMS offers CE credits for psychologists through the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy (IMP), who is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. IMP maintains responsibility for the program and its content.
IMS offers CE credits for Licensed Mental Health Counselors also through IMP, who is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) to sponsor continuing education for National Certified Counselors. IMP (Provider #6048) adheres to NBCC Continuing Education Guidelines. Credits are applicable for Commonwealth of Massachusetts Counseling/Allied Mental Health and PDP accreditation.
We are not offering CE credits through NASW or any other professional organization. However, in some cases CE credits offered by APA or NBCC are accepted by other professions. You will need to inquire with your accrediting body as to whether this is the case.
A Message from IMS’s Guiding Teachers
Inevitably, there is construction and machinery noise as IMS’s project to build a new dormitory and to renovate the Catskills continues. The noise, however, will not be sustained and will mostly take place during regular construction hours (usually Monday – Friday, 7:00am–4:00pm.)
The new air circulation and conditioning system in the Retreat Center meditation hall will allow fresh air to move around without opening the windows. This will help to minimize the impact of the noise. In addition, the project work will be primarily indoors from December, 2012 through to completion, currently scheduled for late August, 2013.
The teachers at IMS decided to continue offering retreats throughout this building period, knowing that conditions for practice are rarely perfect. We trust that these particular conditions can be met with the equanimity and grace with which we meet a range of conditions in our lives.
All of us at IMS look forward to supporting you on retreat.
