This six-week partial of the three-month course is a special time for practice. Because of its extended length and ongoing guidance, it is an opportunity for students to deepen the powers of concentration, wisdom and compassion. Based on the meditation instructions of Mahasi Sayadaw and supplemented by a range of skillful means, this retreat will encourage a balanced attitude of relaxation and alertness, and the continuity of practice based on the Buddha's Four Foundations of Mindfulness.

The teachers will be assisted by Chas DiCapua.

Every participant will be offered a private room.

Prerequisite is two retreats of a week or more with a recognized insight meditation teacher, or special permission. Please document this experience, including teachers' names, dates and length of courses when registering. You will also need to submit a questionnaire when signing up - your course participation cannot be confirmed until this is received and approved.

Special cancellation fees and deadlines apply. Part 2: up to August 25, 2012, $100; afterwards, $250. Please note that these amounts will apply even if you wish to move from any part of the course to another.

A Message from IMS's Guiding Teachers

Inevitably, there is construction and machinery noise as IMS's project to build a new dormitory and to renovate the Catskills continues. The noise, however, will not be sustained and will mostly take place during regular construction hours (usually Monday - Friday, 7:00am-4:00pm.)

The new air circulation and conditioning system in the Retreat Center meditation hall will allow fresh air to move around without opening the windows. This will help to minimize the impact of the noise. In addition, the project work will be primarily indoors from December, 2012 through to completion, currently scheduled for late August, 2013.

The teachers at IMS decided to continue offering retreats throughout this building period, knowing that conditions for practice are rarely perfect. We trust that these particular conditions can be met with the equanimity and grace with which we meet a range of conditions in our lives.

All of us at IMS look forward to supporting you on retreat.
