Thanks to generous grants from the Hemera Foundation's Contemplative Fellowships program, financial support is available for a limited number of Pre-K to 12 Educators, Health Care Professionals and Artists to attend 2017 Retreat Center courses. These are open to those who have never attended a residential meditation retreat of more than two nights, whether at IMS or elsewhere.
A meditation retreat offers a supportive training environment for the cultivation of mindfulness, compassion and personal well-being, qualities that can improve professional lives and workplace culture.
If you meet the requirements outlined, you are eligible for full coverage of your course fee. However, if you can afford to pay a portion of the cost yourself, this will allow funding to be spread among more fellows.
If you have already attended a course longer than two nights, these fellowships are not available. Instead, please consider registering for an IMS retreat as a regular participant. (In this situation, some financial assistance may be available for those who might not otherwise afford the cost.)
Fellowships for Educators are open to anyone who has never attended a residential meditation retreat of more than two nights, whether at IMS or elsewhere, and who is a teacher or staff currently employed in a pre-K program or K–12 school, employed full-time in pre-K–12 school districts, or currently enrolled in a Masters of Education program.
Fellowships for Health Care Professionals are open to anyone who has never attended a residential meditation retreat of more than two nights, whether at IMS or elsewhere, and who is employed full-time in a health care field, working primarily with patients/clients or overseeing other healthcare professionals, or who is a full-time medical student.
Tending Space Fellowships for Artists are open to domestic and international applicants who have never attended a residential meditation retreat of more than two nights, whether at IMS or elsewhere. If you are a full-time visual or performing artist, a writer, or a multi-disciplinary artist with a sincere desire to experience extended meditation practice, so it can inform and influence creative expression in the world, you are welcome to apply.
If you meet the above requirements, you can sign up for most 2017 Retreat Center courses, provided there is still space. Fellowships are not available for retreats specifically for experienced meditators, or for retreats that are already full.
Since funds are limited, fellowships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
To apply, first check our Retreat Center schedule to find a retreat. Make sure you select a course with space available; the Hemera Foundation charges a $5 application fee.
If you are awarded a fellowship, we ask that you commit to attending the entire retreat. If you cancel, you will forfeit eligibility for Hemera funding in 2018.
Hemera fellowships do not include compensation for the teachings. There is an opportunity to offer donations to the teachers and to IMS at the end of each retreat.
If you know others who might be interested, please spread the word.
