Capital Campaign 2006-2008
We at the study center are near the completion of a three-year capital campaign to fund a new library addition to the Farmhouse. $1.25 million will expand the existing library, add much needed student housing, and create a new classroom. It will also increase the endowment to provide support for the upkeep of this new space. Please join us--the faculty, board, and staff--in bringing this vision to fruition.

We Still Need Your Help!

$1.25 Million Capital Campaign

Construction

$750,000 allows us to build this addition with attention to quality materials and construction. Includes new terrace and stone walls, as well as furnishings (beds, couches, computers, etc.).

Endowment Supplement

$500,000 provides $25,000/year to cover the new facility’s electricity, water, heating, etc., preserving this beautiful library well into the future.

Thanks to you, our students and friends, we have raised $983,000. This inspiring project cannot be completed properly without your support. Please consider making a generous donation toward the remaining $267,000 we need to pay the final construction bills, furnish the space adequately, and fulfill its endowment.

Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

When is it better to do more with less? Whenever possible.

As we finalized the design for our new library last spring, we began to see how we could achieve in one project all the things we were trying to accomplish in two. So instead of adding to the Farmhouse in 2007 and the Dharma Hall by 2009, we now intend to finish the entire project by the spring of this year—and save a lot of money in the process.

The key has been to create four spacious, well-lit rooms (along with two bathrooms and a shower) below the library, and to concentrate the books in one area so that most of the library’s reading room is open enough to use as a comfortable classroom when needed.

I hope you like what you see here, and that you can help us finish it off thoughtfully and in a way that will serve us all well for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Andrew Olendzki

A Word From Our Board

Going Green
With this new building, we have had the opportunity to take simple but effective measures to build with the environment in mind. We have already replaced our old furnace with a highly-efficient new boiler that will heat both the existing Farmhouse and the new library. This will help BCBS leave a smaller environmental footprint on the planet, as well as save on fuel costs.

We have made the most of creating south-facing windows with passive solar qualities; thicker walls and rafters incorporating cellulose insulation made from recycled materials; wood flooring reclaimed from local mill buildings; low-toxicity paints and other materials; all electrical fixtures are either compact flourescent or LED--both using much less electricity than normal bulbs; and a roofline that might later support solar photovoltaic panels.
