na ca khuddam samācare kiñci,
yena viññū pare upavadeyyum.
sukhino vā khemino hontu
sabbe sattā bhavantu sukhitattā: |

Saddhatissa: |
He should not pursue the slightest thing for which otherwise men might censure him.
May all beings be happy and secure, may their hearts be wholesome! |

And he should not do any mean thing, on account of which other wise men would
criticize him. Let all creatures indeed be happy (and) secure; let them be happy-minded |

In his deeds there should be no meanness
